As a first-generation Mexican-American, I use visual language to explore the tension between assimilation and preservation. Drawing from both Mexican tradition and Western contemporary culture, I examine what it means to exist between two worlds — de aqui y de alla.Through subtle juxtaposition and personal ephemera, my work explores how culture is carried, distorted, and politicized within the U.S. landscape while also representing my family’s history. I see my practice as both archival and subversive: a tool to preserve cultural memory while challenging the systems that attempt to define or erase us.
